Released in 2016, the Apple iPhone 7 is one of the best iPhones of all time. Last year, the phone was updated to the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 14.
The joy of Apple upgrading the 5-year-old device to the new OS was recently cut short with the release of iOS 14.6 update when things started going south for some iPhone 7 owners.
Ever since updating to iOS 14.6, several users have flooded the Apple forum complaining that their microphone is not working.
Many of them say that they cannot make any calls, use voice search or even make voice memos. Other users note that they can make calls normally but cannot use the microphone when using social media apps.
There are multiple reports of the issue on the company’s forum, but it’s still not the perfect metric to tell us how widespread the issue is.
Having said that, Apple is yet to acknowledge the issue. Some say the issue is related to the recent software update while others claim it is a hardware problem.
Could it be a hardware issue that has been exposed with the iOS 14.6 update? Some claim so, adding that buying a new phone or repairing the iPhone 7 unit is the only solution for now.
Some users say restarting the phone or resetting the network settings has fixed the problem for them. Others claim that this is a temporary fix and the microphone stops working after a while.
We hope Apple reaches out to the affected users and works on fixing the issue.
