Halo fans have been waiting years for this moment. Their patience has finally paid off, with Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign launching on Wednesday. Reviews of Halo Infinite’s campaign have been positive, following up on the glowing reception that Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer half received. Fittingly, it appears Xbox is already looking toward the future of Halo. A newly discovered trademark reveals the existence of something named Halo: The Endless.
Halo: The Endless was officially filed as a trademark on December 3 and is associated with all of the typical video game-adjacent trademark classifications. That is, it’s filed as related to video game software, downloadable game software, digital media tied to digital video discs, and other associated filing subjects. That, at the very least, seems to imply that Halo: The Endless is tied to video games and not cross-media efforts, movies, or the like.
One other notable aspect of the trademark is its association with esports. The second half of the trademark’s Goods and Services portion of its Statements lists subjects including conducting game tournaments, conducting online contests, and other labels tied to broadcasting and video reproduction for esports events. In other words, at face value, the trademark appears to be associated with Halo multiplayer, rather than its single-player content. The trademark may simply be covering its bases, however, so it’s difficult to make an assumption.
It’s difficult to guess what Halo: The Endless could be related to because Halo is involved in so many cross-media partnerships and creative efforts. There are books, movies, toys, and more being released tied to the Halo franchise yearly. While the trademark does appear to be video game-related, it notably doesn’t include the Halo Infinite name. It’s possible that means it’s unrelated to the recently-released game, and could be something entirely different.
If one had to guess, what makes the most sense is that Halo: The Endless is an expansion or event for Halo Infinite. Halo: The Endless could be the first post-launch expansion or chapter for Halo Infinite, featuring content for both single-player and multiplayer. That is, to repeat, a guess.
To find out more, all Halo Infinite players can do is wait. Perhaps Halo: The Endless will be related to The Game Awards 2021’s Halo television show reveal, perhaps it’s an upcoming holiday event, or perhaps Halo fans will be waiting months if not years to hear more about the mysterious trademark.
Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
