Releasing last year, Minecraft Dungeons offered a very different experience to the iconic open-world sandbox it spun off from, focusing on top-down action and dungeon-crawling. The game is set to get its latest DLC later this month, with Mojang announcing via its website that Hidden Depths will be available starting May 26.
The add-on will bring Dungeons’ players to an all-new Ocean biome, tasking them with fighting new mobs and exploring fresh locations while attempting to prevent a “spreading corruption.” It will be the fifth addition to the game’s roster of expansions and will launch on its 1st anniversary, celebrating one year since its debut.
Alongside the DLC’s release, Minecraft Dungeons will also be getting a free update on the same day, with Mojang adding a variety of new features. The biggest of these is the addition of a new enemy known as the Raid Captain, who will crop up throughout Minecraft Dungeons’ world and offer challenging encounters. The powerful mobs will seemingly provide experienced players with a challenge while also offering treasure if defeated. Mojang also claims that the free update will add plenty of new enchantments and missions to the game, ensuring players who aren’t keen on jumping into Hidden Depths will have fresh content to enjoy regardless.
The newest DLC will join the roster of Minecraft Dungeons expansions that have dropped over the last 12 months, including Flames of the Nether, Howling Peaks, and Creeping Winter. Each one adds a new biome with fresh quests to undertake, weapons to collect, and mobs to defeat. Players wanting access to all the additional content can get their hands on both the Hero Pass and the Season Pass, with the Hero Pass unlocking the Jungle Awakens and Creeping Winter DLCs and the Season Pass unlocking the Howling Peaks, Flames of the Nether, and Hidden Depths packs, as well as another DLC in the near future.
Minecraft Dungeons isn’t the only Minecraft project currently slated to get a big expansion, with the base game getting a two-part Caves and Cliffs update throughout the rest of 2021. The addition will introduce several new features to Minecraft, including new caves, blocks, and increased height and depth limits. It looks to be a huge slice of content that will completely change the title’s spelunking and mountaineering experiences. Minecraft will also be getting an update surrounding archaeology, although it’s been delayed until next year so Mojang can work on it further.
Minecraft Dungeons is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
