New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on June 12, 2021) follows:
A lot of expectation has been riding on with the MIUI 12.5 update especially since the massive mess up MIUI 12 has turned out to be.
Sure, MIUI 12 was quite a major update and brought along a slew of changes over MIUI 11 so minor issues here and there were pretty much expected.
But what isn’t forgivable is the fact that some of the long underlying issues on MIUI 12 have ended up on MIUI 12.5 as well. After all, the latest version of Xiaomi’s Android skin has been promised as being optimization-centered.
One of these is the Messenger chat bubbles issue that has been troubling users for quite a while now.
As clear from the above complaints, Facebook Messenger chat bubbles, which normally appear as circles, are showing up square-shaped on Android 11-based MIUI 12 and MIUI 12.5.
And no, the problems do not just end there. Users say that there are other issues as well including a layout problem where the keyboard overlaps the text field on the floating window.
This is combined with another problem where the chat bubble doesn’t even show up occasionally.
When this happens, clicking on a notification from the Messenger app does nothing, leaving no way to access the chat other than opening up the entire app manually.
It is important to note here that this isn’t even the first time Xiaomi and Poco device owners have to put up with Messenger chat head issues. Previously, there were several reports of a bug that caused the phone to freeze upon exiting Messenger chat heads.
Nonetheless, if you are one of the users facing the Messenger square chat bubbles issue on MIUI 12 or MIUI 12.5, then you will be pleased to know that Xiaomi is working on a fix for the same.
Thus, for now, your best bet would be to simply wait for a bug-fixing update to roll out. So be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated Xiaomi Android 11 bug tracker as we will be updating it with the latest developments.
