Over the last few months, Twitch has been navigating troubled waters. Despite being one of the most popular streaming services in the industry, rival platforms, such as YouTube, have begun to attract some of the most influential figures in content creation over to their side of the fence. Names such as TimTheTatman and Dr. Lupo signed with YouTube gaming a couple of months ago, and Ludwig recently moved to the platform as well. Despite losing these streamers, Charles “Moistcr1tikal” White claims that Twitch wouldn’t be upset if it lost another big name.
During a recent live stream, YouTube content creator MoistCr1tikal discussed the future of Twitch. The topic originated from a person in the streamer’s chat, asking what Ludwig leaving the platform meant moving forward. It didn’t take long for him to respond. “Nothing,” the streamer said, claiming that the mammoth company wasn’t concerned about losing some of its top talents. However, his comments didn’t stop with Ludwig.
After maintaining that the company didn’t care about losing some of its big streamers, he doubled down on his position. According to Moistcr1tikal, Twitch wouldn’t bat an eye if xQc left the platform as well. Part of his reasoning behind this assertion was that xQc had been a controversial figure over the years. Moistcr1tikal pointed out that the streamer had been banned numerous times already on the platform. According to the YouTube streamer, the company would not try to keep xQc by offering him a large lump sum of money because it views him as “a brand risk.”
These comments are interesting, as they reveal more about the unsettled condition of the streaming industry. Based on these remarks from MoistCr1tikal, it seems that he wouldn’t be surprised to see more streamers move to other platforms in the coming days. He even noted that he believed that “5 of the top 25 streamers” had left Twitch over the past 6 months.
This isn’t the only recent news regarding xQc. Besides being the topic of this discussion about Twitch, the Canadian streamer had a disagreement with Asmongold, a streamer known for World of Warcraft. The controversy was about Asmongold’s recent negative comments about gambling streams. According to xQc, he maintained that he should be allowed to do what he wanted without being criticized by fellow content creators.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for xQc. It should be noted that the streamer has not hinted at leaving Twitch. However, if his fans have learned anything from watching the streamer over the years, they should expect the unexpected. Only time will tell if he eventually makes a move to a new platform.
