In the world of Naruto, the Tailed Beasts are powerful creatures that possess tremendous amounts of chakra, the primal energy that allows ninjas to perform all sorts of jutsu. These beasts were created by Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, when he split the chakra of the Ten-Tails into nine parts.
Being solely made of chakra, the Tailed Beasts are known to have incredibly large reserves of that energy, hence earning them the title of “chakra monsters.” While all the Tailed Beasts in Naruto are powerful, not all of them are equally strong. Their powers differ, and some have demonstrated greater strength than others.
10 Shukaku
The One-Tail, also known as Shukaku, is a powerful Tailed Beast that Naruto viewers first saw during the Chunin Exams arc. Shukaku appears to be a beast made of sand, and resembles a tanuki. In terms of chakra, he possesses an immense reserve.
His specialty is his impenetrable defense, and he takes quite a bit of pride in this quality. Along with that, he can also attack using sand, as seen during his fight against Naruto Uzumaki. What’s more, Shukaku also has the power of the Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai.
Shukaku’s Kekkei Genkai
Just like some shinobi of Sunagakure, Shukaku has access to a special power called the Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai. He creates this power by combining Earth Release with Wind Release. Shukaku’s Magnet Release allows him to control the magnetic forces and use them in conjunction with his Cursed Seals.
These powers allow Shukaku to seal away others, as seen during the Fourth Great Ninja War on several occasions. When Shukaku lent this power to Naruto Uzumaki, he incorporated it in his Rasengan and was able to seal away one of Madara’s Limbo shadows.
9 Matatabi
Matatabi, also called the Two-Tails, is the second tailed beast after Shukaku. It is a feline, and thus possesses great flexibility and speed. Out of all the Tailed Beasts, it is quite possible that Matatabi is the fastest.
Matatabi is also capable of using Fire Release, and also grants this ability to her Jinchuriki.
Just like all the other Tailed Beasts, it has an incredible amount of chakra and can also use the Tailed Beast Ball to destroy everything around itself.
8 Isobu
Isobu, also known as the Three-Tails, is a powerful Tailed Beast that once lived in Kirigakure. This beast possesses the special ability to use Water Release, meaning all of its Jinchuriki get this power as well. The scale at which it uses this is far different from a regular ninja as his Jutsu has been shown to be strong enough to destroy cliffs with ease.
What’s more, Isobu also possesses great defensive abilities, as is expected of a turtle such as itself. In the anime, it also has some expertise in Space-Time Ninjutsu, making him extremely versatile as a Tailed Beast.
7 Son Goku
Son Goku, the Four-Tails, is an exceptionally powerful Tailed Beast. Son Goku is an ape and believes that it is far more intelligent than humans, something which was backed up by his knowledge of the Rinnegan’s abilities.
He possesses tremendous strength, and most importantly, has the power to use the Lava Release Kekkei Genkai. Using its power, its Jinchuriki Roshi gained the title of “Roshi of the Lava Release.” Son Goku possesses the strongest Kekkei Genkai of all the Tailed Beasts, making it quite special.
Son Goku’s Kekkei Genkai
The four-tailed beast, Son Goku is an incredibly powerful beast with the power of the Lava Release Kekkei Genkai. He creates this power by combining Earth Release with Fire Release. Son Goku’s skill with Lava Release is immense, and he grants his Jinchuriki the ability to use a Lava Release Chakra Mode.
As the name suggests, this is quite similar to the Fourth Raikage’s Lightning Release Chakra Mode, only instead of a lightning cloak, the user gets a lava cloak. What’s more, Son Goku supplied Naruto Uzumaki with Lava Release chakra during the Fourth Great Ninja War which he incorporated in his Rasenshuriken.
6 Kokuo
Also known as the Five-Tails, Kokuo was once in possession of Iwagakure. Kokuo is quite skilled in combat, as seen when it fought against Gyuki, the Eight-Tailed beast.
Kokou also has the power of the Boil Release Kekkei Genkai, making it extremely dangerous in battle. This ability shortly boosts its powers to sky-high limits, as seen when Naruto Uzumaki used it against Kaguya Otsutsuki and gained immense power.
Kokuo’s Kekkei Genkai
The Five Tails, Kokuo, also has access to a powerful Kekkei Genkai, called Boil Release. Kokuo creates it by combining Fire Release with Water Release, giving rise to this incredible power. Out of all the Kekkei Genkai, this one appears to be among the most useful, as seen when Naruto Uzumaki employed Boil Release against Kaguya Otsutsuki to gain a temporary power boost and break free of her Ice Release jutsu.
Boil Release can also be used to power up already existing techniques by using steam as a source of propulsion. Without a doubt, Kokuo’s Boil Release is a handy ability and is definitely one of the strongest Kekkei Genkai.
5 Saiken
The Six Tails, also known as Saiken, was once within Utakata of Kirigakure. This Tailed Beast is exceptionally skilled in the art of Water Release, just like Isobu. However, what makes it special is its ability to use corrosive fluids in battle.
aiken is extremely dangerous to take on in battle, even though it isn’t aggressive by nature. Just a single touch of its corrosive fluid or gas can prove to be fatal, which is why it ranks among the strongest Tailed Beasts.
4 Chomei
The Seven-Tails, Chomei, is a special Tailed Beast as it is the only one capable of flight. This Tailed Beast once lived in Takigakure inside of Fu, its Jinchuriki. Having seven tails, Chomei is quite powerful in combat.
Chomei seems to possess blinding powers using its wings, as seen in the fight against Kurama and Gyuki. Furthermore, it also uses other insect-like powers, such as biting. Sadly, most of its abilities remain unexplored to this day.
3 Gyuki
The Eight-Tails, also known as Gyuki, is easily one of the strongest Tailed Beasts in the Naruto universe. Gyuki lives within Killer Bee and the two share a great bond with each other.
Gyuki possesses great physical strength, as seen throughout Naruto Shippuden. It was able to take down multiple Tailed Beasts at once. Although Gyuki has the power of Ink Creation, it rarely uses it in battle, because its usage is hardly needed. It can also create a powerful Tailed Beast Ball that can obliterate mountains with ease
2 Kurama
Of all the nine Tailed Beasts, Kurama was by far the strongest. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, just half of Kurama’s power was enough to overpower five Tailed Beasts at once, which just goes to show how strong it truly was.
Kurama also believed that it was the strongest Tailed Beasts due to having the most tails. Its full power allowed Naruto Uzumaki to compete with the likes of Toneri Otsutsuki in battle and emerge victorious — no small feat.
1 Ten-Tails
Without a doubt, the Ten-Tails is the strongest of all the Tailed Beasts. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, it finally came back to life and rampaged across the battlefield. The Ten-Tails is stronger than all the nine Tailed Beasts put together, and its powers can’t be compared to them.
Ten Tails can swallow oceans, destroy mountains, and is known to be strong enough to destroy an entire planet. There’s just one caveat: it cannot use its real strength unless it is sealed within someone. It’s probably for the best, as otherwise it would pose too great a threat to comprehend.
Ten-Tails’ Kekkei Genkai
The Ten-Tails is the most powerful Tailed Beasts, and thus it has a very overpowered Kekkei Genkai as well in Wood Release. By combining Water Release and Earth Release, the Ten-Tails is able to give rise to this incredible power. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Ten-Tails made incredible use of the Wood Release Kekkei Genkai and slaughtered countless shinobi within a matter of seconds.
The Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails can usually control Wood Release through their connection to it, as seen when Obito Uchiha and Madara used different Jutsu during their time as the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki.
