The NBA All-Star Game brings excitement and joy to the basketball world, and it also brings the NBA 2K22 February roster update. NBA 2K22’s latest update covers overall adjustments across all 30 teams and 145 players in total, either upgrading or downgrading the scores of players while also factoring in any trades that have gone through during the season.
The Philadelphia 76ers received the most changes to their roster, with nine players looking at new scores to their player card, while the Memphis Grizzlies had the least with two. Unlike last year’s installment, when the entire Washington Wizards were unhappy with their player scores, NBA 2K22 has received less criticism, and the developers at 2K Games have performed a modest job at keeping up with this season’s events.
The three players who jumped the most were Udoka Azubuike, Trendon Watford, and Terry Taylor, all three of which improve from their original scores in the 60s before the NBA 2K22 update. Luka Doncic was bumped up 95 overall, the highest on the list but still short of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 97 overall, while DeMar DeRozan moved up from 90 to 91. Surprisingly, all three of James Harden, Trae Young, and Kyrie Irving were all bumped down by a point, placing them with a 90 overall rating. Harden’s trade to the 76ers seems to coincide with his overall score receiving a slight downgrade, while players like Young and Irving are both down in statistical numbers compared to last season’s totals.
- Terry Taylor: 73 OVR (+5) Udoka Azubuike: 74 OVR (+4) Trendon Watford: 74 OVR (+4)
In total, 13 players received a two-point downgrade on their overall score, however, it was Yuta Watanabe, Georges Niang, and Nick Richards who were affected the most by the update. Notables include Seth Curry, Kemba Walker, Russell Westbrook, and DeAndre Jordan, and 48 players made the list of downgrades with a one-point decrease in their score. Spencer Dinwiddie moved down from an 80 to a 79 while injury-plagued Kristaps Porziņģis dropped from 86 to 85, despite seeing some good results after transitioning from the center position to power forward. It will be interesting to see if another NBA 2K22 roster update will occur between now and the start of the NBA playoffs, something the NFL did with Madden 22 ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, especially with some big names potentially missing out on the post-season.
- Yuta Watanabe: 71 OVR (-2) Georges Niang: 72 OVR (-2) Nick Richards: 74 OVR (-2)
NBA 2K22 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
