Nest Hello Doorbell is one of the Google’s home security devices. It has features such as facial recognition, notifications, and a communication system.
However, many of its users are reporting some malfunction. It seems that the Google Nest Hello Doorbell reboots or goes offline when its button is pressed (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

According to the reports, problems start to happen suddenly. Most cases agree that the device goes offline while someone rings the bell.
First, the ring bell sound would stop for no reason. And a few seconds later, its camera also turns off.
This means that the main functions of the Hello Doorbell (such as seeing the person who rings the bell or speaking to them) are completely disabled.
The battery could be responsible for the issue
Some users suspect that the issue is related to the battery. It is possible that after a while, the battery capacity has reduced so much that it cannot power the doorbell. Also, the battery could be sensitive to cold.
Multiple reports agree that the problem appears on active devices from 2018-2019, which increases suspicions about battery degradation. However, this has yet to be confirmed.
Google team is already aware
The issue was escalated to Google for at least a couple of weeks. But, there is still no official statement on the matter from the company.

04:50 pm (IST): A few recent reports (1, 2) add weight to the theory that the battery may be sensitive to cold temperatures which leads to the problem.
Unfortunately, Google is yet to share any further details regarding the issue. Thus, we’ll have to take this information with a pinch of salt for the time being.
