As we inch closer and closer to one of 2022’s most highly-anticipated movies, The Batman, Warner Bros. recently shared a new movie poster with its fans. In so doing, the movie’s ad campaign shed some new light on the upcoming film, as this recent poster gave more spotlight to its main characters.
This new poster shows the four main characters confirmed to be featured in The Batman. Those characters include the caped crusader himself, played by Robert Pattison, Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, Colin Farrell’s Penguin, and Paul Dano’s the Riddler. The poster also features Pattinson twice, both as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego.
This was an interesting choice to make by those running the films’ ad campaign. Previous posters for The Batman didn’t reveal much about who exactly was in it (besides the obvious culprit) and what designs their characters had. Still, since the trailers for this movie revealed these characters in small snippets (which is what they’re supposed to do), it doesn’t feel entirely out of the blue that this recent The Batman poster displayed our four leads clear as day.
Some fans may say that they liked it more when the movie’s promotional campaign helped the movie remain mysterious, but in all seriousness, this poster didn’t give away all that much. Take the Riddler for example. In spite of getting a clear-cut image of his character design on this new poster, it still doesn’t give much away about the character himself. Thus, he remains an enigma that viewers will only get to see in the flesh when the movie is released.
Even if this poster revealed more exterior details, it arguably added more to the upcoming mystery. The Riddler is very clearly targeting Gotham’s Dark Knight, but we have yet to know why. Because the audience knows what the Riddler’s doing but doesn’t know why he’s doing it, that only serves to make them more invested. Some studios have previously revealed a little too much about their blockbuster movies before the films’ release through both their trailers and posters, but DC has expertly handled hyping the audience for this film without giving away too much.
All in all, with all the promotional trailers and posters that this film is getting before its release, it’s becoming more and more evident that the DCEU is investing a lot of stock in how The Batman does. If this movie lives up to the hype, this will undoubtedly raise that cinematic universe to the heights it’s been dreaming of for years. But, if it doesn’t, that might be the final nail in the coffin for the DCEU no matter what they try next.
The Batman is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 4th, 2022.
