There have been many cartoon-related games to release over the last few years, but few have made as much of a splash as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The platform fighter from developer Ludosity and publisher GameMill Entertainment has been out for a couple of months now, and it’s already built up a respectable community of fans that appreciate the game’s take on the fighting genre, as well as the entertaining combination of cartoon faces. While it may not be as expansive as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has been doing what it can to establish its own identity.

With its mild success, however, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has also been fighting an uphill battle of sorts. One of the main criticisms for All-Star Brawl at launch was the fact that it was a little barebones as far as some features were concerned. There was no voice acting for the game’s iconic characters, and things like alternate skins for fighters were missing as well. Fortunately, it seems that developer Ludosity has been hard at work expanding Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl into a more fleshed out experience, which should comfort those that want the game to live up to its full potential.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s DLC Frequency

The biggest indicator of how much work Ludosity is putting into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is just how frequent the game’s DLC has been. Although it took a little longer than some may have hoped, new skins for every fighter were added to All-Star Brawl just this past week, adding some variety and in some cases continuing Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s penchant for entertaining references. It may seem like a small addition in the grand scheme of things, but the fact that it was the first thing Ludosity committed to adding means that the developer really wants the game to be on a comparable level to other platform fighters.

If the rapid addition of custom skins in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl wasn’t enough, the game has already announced its first DLC fighter. Just two months after release, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is adding Garfield as a new DLC fighter, kickstarting the work of making the game’s roster more expansive than it was at launch. If Ludosity keeps this pace for adding other fighters, All-Star Brawl’s roster could have half a dozen more characters to choose from by the time it hits its first anniversary on the market. It may be a tall task, but it would ensure gamers have a reason to keep coming back to the game every couple of months.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s Fight Against New Competition

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s impressive DLC pace should also ensure that the game stays relevant compared to its upcoming competition, MultiVersus. The platform fighter from Warner Bros. takes a very similar format to All-Star Brawl, but the game’s reveal trailer showed off many features that All-Star Brawl is still lacking. While MultiVersus doesn’t come out until 2022, there’s no doubt that the two games will be vying for attention in the platform fighting space. If All-Star Brawl is able to continue to expand in the way that it has been so far, it should be in a pretty good place by the time MultiVersus launches.

Although Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl might not have launched in a state reflecting a fully fleshed out platform fighter experience, developer Ludosity deserves recognition for all of the work it has already done towards bringing the game up to that level. The fact that the game is already getting its first DLC fighter is a rather impressive feat, and All-Star Brawl will more than likely continue to get more support the more gamers get their hands on it. There’s still plenty of Nickelodeon characters that fans want on the roster, so time will tell if Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will become the game that many fans have been hoping it would be.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
