A new HD Texture Pack for NieR: Automata has been released, and is free for players to download. The fan-made patch gives a high definition visual overhaul at least a few hundred textures found throughout the game.

Released in 2017, the Platinum Games produced, Square Enix published JRPG title was met with critical and commercial acclaim. Critics and fans alike lauded NieR: Automata for striking a good balance of action and RPG elements, with the title’s visual aesthetics a common talking point. The series director Yoko Taro still isn’t convinced of the franchise’s long-term success, calling Automata sales “a fluke.”

The new HD Texture Pack, coming from modder GPUnity, gives over 300 of the game’s textures a high definition resolution. Showcased in an extensive video on YouTube, the footage shows GPUnity’s final update to the patch. The intent behind the mod is to fix the low-resolution textures found on certain surfaces, while maintaining a more uniform visual consistency throughout for the optimal gameplay experience. The visual patch does require Kaldaien’s FAR (Fix Automata Resolution) mod to be installed, which allows for texture injection. Players can alternatively use Special K for the Windows Store version. It should be noted a lite version of the patch exists as well for players who are on a lower-end system.

NieR: Automata is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
