There is a new software update for the NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 units that have been registered into the hotfix program.
The new arrival marks the third version to be released in the hotfix program and as usual, NVIDIA has included tons of bug fixes and some new features as well and it arrives as software version 32.7.301.64, up from the previous version 32.7.301.43.
The Shield 2019 update is still based on the same Shield Experience 8.1.0+, but being a hotfix, it’s only limited to select models. Think of it as a beta version that will soon be made available for everyone after ironing out every possible kink.
Several issues have popped up in recent times for various owners of the Shield 2019 models, both the “Tube” and Pro. Some of these issues arose after the previous update while others are a little older.
Talk of things like remote IR battery draining issue, HDMI-CEC issues, even the issues with DC Universe and Dolby Vision on Philips TVs, or even issues with Dolby Vision on Vizio P TVs, among many others.
In the latest Shield 2019 update, NVIDIA has included a plethora of bug fixes and optimizations for these issues and many others that have been affecting several owners of these devices, including some that we have also highlighted in the past.
For instance, the annoying issue with detecting Dolby Vision on some Sony, Vizio, and Phillips TVs has now been fixed and so has the cast playback issues when switching between HDR and SDR content and the IR battery draining issues.
Below is a summary of all the changes the third Shield 2019 update brings. If you look closely, you should also notice a bunch of new features has been included, among them the option to use Google Assistant to adjust volume and support for Xbox Elite 2 controller.
A new Shield 2019 update will soon be released to the stable channel with these same changes, so stay put.
Latest Live Channels update breaks Hauppauge WinTV Dual-HD Tuner
Still with the NVIDIA Shield 2019, some users of the pair of Android TVs say the latest update to Live Channels version 1.23 breaks Hauppauge WinTV Dual-HD Tuner.
Besides the official NVIDIA forums, the Live Channels issue with Shield 2019 units has also been highlighted in the app’s reviews in the Google Play Store, indeed confirming that it’s widespread.
On the brighter side, there is a quick workaround that involves rolling back to the previous version of the Live Channels app, that is, version 1.19. But remember to disable auto-updates after this to prevent the app from downloading the buggy version.
This should work until the issue is fixed, probably in the next update that we don’t know when it will arrive. We will keep an eye on the developments and let you know when it’s fixed.
